A reference-first method

How to measure your pet for a bandana.

Bandana labels are not universal, and a tied bandana uses fabric in both the fold and the knot. The clearest comparison starts with a bandana your pet already wears comfortably.

Three simple checks

Measure the fabric, then compare the fold.

01

Choose a comfortable reference

Use a bandana that already ties without pinching and does not slip over your pet's head. Remove it before measuring.

02

Lay it flat

Open the reference bandana as far as its construction allows. If it is square, measure one full edge; if it is triangular, compare the longest edge and note that the shape differs.

03

Notice the knot allowance

Check how much fabric remains after the knot. A reference that only just ties should not be treated as extra room when comparing another square.
